SUGGESTED ITINERARY:
Day 1 (Friday): Welcome to Kalgoorlie-Boulder, Australia's largest outback city and the beating heart of the Goldfields region. You're in for a weekend of country hospitality and amazing stories. There is so much to discover behind the facades of our beautiful heritage buildings and your first stop to revealing Kalgoorlie-Boulder's amazing history is the friendly team at the Kalgoorlie-Boulder Visitor Centre, located at the historic Kalgoorlie Town Hall. Your package includes a City Highlights Tour aboard our beautifully restored heritage tram and a self-guided walking tour with audio. Tours for Kalgoorlie's most visited attraction, the Super Pit operate Mondays to Fridays and can vary due to mine operations. The team will be able to advise if and when this tour can be included in your weekend depending on your arrival and departure travel plans. PLANNING TIP.. book in advance - 6 weeks is a great lead time. There are plenty of options for dinner this evening in Hannan St - just ask our team for the Kalgoorlie-Boulder dining guide.
Day 2 (Saturday): Start your day with an early morning coffee and and a hearty breakfast, ready for a day of exploring. Make your way to the Kalgoorlie Boulder Visitor Centre by 9.15am to join our guided City Highlights Heritage Tram Tour aboard 'Ruby' our lovingly restored trolley car tram, reminiscent of the style of transport in Kalgoorlie around the turn of the century. Your highlights tour includes stops at Mt Charlotte, the Super Pit viewing platform and the Boulder Town Hall including the Goldfields War Museum. The onboard commentary regales fascinating stories of Kalgoorlie-Boulder's past and you'll definitely leave the tour with a greater appreciation for Kalgoorlie-Boulder and its place in Australian folklore. The tour ends with a visit to the Vault at the Museum of the Goldfields around lunch time. You can choose to leave the tour here or return to the Kalgoorlie Town Hall. Right next door to the Museum is s the recently refurbished Federal Hotel; stop here for lunch in a genuine federation-styled pub. After lunch, you could choose to spend more time exploring the amazing exhibits at the Museum or take a wander down Hannan St on your return to your accommodation.
Day 3 (Sunday): After breakfast, drop into the Kalgoorlie-Boulder Visitor Centre to pick up your audio headset for your self-guided walking tour, included in your package. Starting at Paddy Hannan's statue, the tour is a fun way to hear more of the stories that lie behind our beautiful heritage buildings. Once you've returned your headset to the Visitor Centre, the afternoon is yours to enjoy. On most Sundays the Two-Up School is in operation, just 8km out of town. The guided experience offers a fantastic insight into life in the Goldfields and if you're keen, you can also have a flutter! Or if you're intrigued to know more about gold mining in days gone by, head to Hannans North Tourist Mine, a genuine decommissioned mine with fantastic displays including enormous mining machinery. If you don't have a vehicle with you, the easiest way to get to both the Two Up School and Hannans North Tourist Mine is by local taxi.
Day 4 (Monday): Start your last day in Kalgoorlie-Boulder by calling into the Kalgoorlie-Boulder Visitor Centre for suggestions on how to make the most of your remaining time. Consider joining a tour of the famous Super Pit for an unforgettable insight into modern gold mining (subject to availability). All too soon, it’s time to head home with wonderful memories — until next time.
