SUGGESTED ITINERARY:

Day 1 (Friday):     Your racing weekend starts with a warm welcome at your chosen accommodation in Kalgoorlie-Boulder.   Spend your first afternoon exploring famous Hannan St visiting Australia's best collection of Federation Classic-Style heritage pubs where the beer is always cold and plentiful.   There are plenty of options for dinner on Hannan St. Ask our friendly staff to send you a copy of our Dinning Out Guide or recommend somewhere for you.

Day 2 (Saturday):   Start your day with an early morning coffee and a hearty breakfast, ready for a day of exploring.  There is so much to do in Kalgoorlie-Boulder and the team at the Kalgoorlie-Boulder Visitor Centre can help you plan a day as busy or relaxed as you wish.  Make your way to the Kalgoorlie Boulder Visitor Centre by 9.15am to join our guided City Highlights Heritage Tram Tour aboard 'Ruby' our lovingly restored trolley car tram, reminiscent of the style of transport in Kalgoorlie around the turn of the century.   Your highlights tour includes stops at Mt Charlotte, the Super Pit viewing platform and the Boulder Town Hall.  The onboard commentary regales fascinating stories of Kalgoorlie-Boulder's past and you'll definitely leave the tour with a greater appreciation for Kalgoorlie-Boulder and it's place in Australian folklore.  The tour ends with a visit to the Gold Vault at the Museum of the Goldfields around lunch time.  You can choose to leave the tour here or return to the Kalgoorlie Town Hall.

Right next door to the Museum is the recently refurbished Federal Hotel;  a great choice for lunch in a genuine federation-styled pub.  After lunch, you could choose to spend more time exploring the amazing exhibits at the Museum or take a wander down Hannan St on your return to your accommodation.  This afternoon why not check out one of Kalgoorlie-Boulder's most quirky attractions - Questa Casa, one of the world's oldest brothels!  With its world famous corrugated-iron “starting stalls”, Questa Casa is the last of the original brothels built  during Kalgoorlie's’ gold-rush era of the 1890’s. Of all the illegal houses  that constituted Kalgoorlie's’ infamous Hay Street, Questa Casa is the only ‘gold-rush’ brothel left, and as such, has become one of Kalgoorlie's’ ‘must do‘ tours.

Day 3 (Sunday):  It's Race Day!   You're in for a full day of racing at Kalgoorlie-Boulder's historic race track where horse racing has been run since 1896.  Your exclusive entry ticket entitles you to be a Member for a Day, with entrance to the Members pavilion and the best view of the track.  Gates open at 11.30am and the first race starts at 12.40pm.  The best way to get to the track is by taxi.  Whilst you're waiting for the first race to start, why not check out the Signpost Racing Museum at the track.  It's a unique attraction dedicated to preserving and showcasing the rich history of horse racing in the Goldfields region. It houses a diverse collection of racing memorabilia, including original silks, betting machines, bookmakers' bags, and ticket stubs, offering a glimpse into the past. The museum is housed in the "Tote" (Totaliser) Building, a structure dating back to 1896, and features several of the original betting windows.  Whether it's a day of winnings or commiserations, there's a local watering hole waiting for you to take your day into the evening.  Check out the Rec Hotel in Boulder or the historic York Hotel back in Hannan St.  Either is a great choice for happy punters.

Day 4 (Monday):   Start your last day in Kalgoorlie-Boulder with a scrumptious breakfast at Cafe 312 on Hannan St and if time permits, jump aboard a guided Super Pit Tour* to see Australia's largest open-pit Gold Mine in action.  The tour departs from St Barbara's Square at 9am and this is your opportunity to experience the scale of the operation, observe mining and milling processes, and learn about the history and technology behind gold extraction.  *The Super Pit Tour can only be booked up to six weeks in advance and clothing requirements apply.  Ask the friendly staff at the Kalgoorlie Boulder Visitor Centre to secure your place.  All too soon, it's time to head home with wonderful memories... until next time.

OPTIONAL:  Kalgoorlie Super Pit Tour (Monday to Friday)
