SUGGESTED ITINERARY:

Day 1 (Wednesday):    All Aboard the Prospector!   Your Kalgoorlie-Boulder Race Round experience begins bright and early at East Perth Station, where you board the iconic Prospector train;  an iconic regional Western Australian rail journey to Australia's largest Outback city. Sit back, relax and enjoy the view passing through quaint country towns and farms in the Wheatbelt region, before the scenery gradually shifts to the rich red soils and golden woodlands of the Goldfields. The Prospector rolls into Kalgoorlie Station in the mid-afternoon, where our team will meet you on arrival and direct you to local taxis to whisk you to your chosen accommodation for the next four nights.    Spend your first afternoon exploring famous Hannan St visiting Australia's best collection of Federation Classic-Style heritage pubs where the beer is always cold and plentiful.  There are plenty of options for dinner on Hannan St. Ask our friendly staff to send you a copy of our Dining Out Guide. Raise a glass and toast to the days ahead;  a big week of racing awaits.

Day 2 (Thursday):   It's Hannan's Handicap Day - The Race Round begins!  Start your day with an early morning coffee and a hearty breakfast, before making your way to visit the team at the Kalgoorlie-Boulder Visitor Centre to collect your Race Round tickets and giveaways.  Thinking about some touring whilst you're in town?  The team can help you plan your days to be as busy or relaxed as you wish.    Your 'Member For A Day' entrance ticket entitles you to reserved seating in the members grandstand with uninterrupted views of Kalgoorlie-Boulder's legendary track, a complimentary drink* on arrival and a separate TAB area to wager your bets.  The Hannan's Handicap is a Listed race over 1400 metres, with a prize pool of $120,000 attracting some of the finest horses in the state. The Members' enclosure buzzes with fashion, form guides, friendly banter and the unmistakable thrill of a field thundering down the 320-metre Kalgoorlie straight. Today also features Fashions on the Field with a $5,000 first prize on offer.  So dress to impress — bold colours and creative hats are warmly encouraged!

Day 3 (Friday):  You're spoilt for choice today.  If you are joining our optional Heritage Tram Tour this morning, you'll need to be at the Visitor Centre by 9.15am to jump aboard 'Ruby' our lovingly restored trolley car tram, reminiscent of the style of transport in Kalgoorlie around the turn of the century.   Your highlights tour includes stops at Mt Charlotte, the Super Pit viewing platform and the Boulder Town Hall.  The onboard commentary regales fascinating stories of Kalgoorlie-Boulder's past and you'll definitely leave the tour with a greater appreciation for Kalgoorlie-Boulder and it's place in Australian folklore.  The tour ends with a visit to the Gold Vault at the Museum of the Goldfields around lunch time.  One of the most coveted social events of the entire Race Round week is the Race Round Sportsman's Lunch; a beloved Kalgoorlie tradition. Held the day before the Kalgoorlie Cup, this event brings together racing identities, sporting legends, and guests from across the country for a memorable afternoon of food, stories, and special guest speakers includes  top Australian Trainer Peter Moody and comedian Mickey D.  This event is OPTIONAL and is not included in your base package. Please enquire about availability and pricing at time of booking.

If you choose not to book your ticket to the Sportsman's Lunch event this afternoon,  why not check out one of Kalgoorlie-Boulder's most quirky attractions - Questa Casa, one of the world's oldest brothels!  With its world famous corrugated-iron “starting stalls”, Questa Casa is the last of the original brothels built during Kalgoorlie's gold-rush era of the 1890s. Of all the illegal houses that constituted Kalgoorlie's infamous Hay Street, Questa Casa is the only ‘gold-rush’ brothel left, and as such, has become one of Kalgoorlie's ‘must do‘ tours.  This tour is OPTIONAL and is not included in your base package. Please enquire about availability and pricing at time of booking.

Day 4 (Saturday):   It's Kalgoorlie Cup Day!  Today is the day Kalgoorlie-Boulder has been building towards all week — and what a day it promises to be. Rise, enjoy a hearty breakfast and begin getting race-day ready. Whether you're going all-out with a showstopping outfit and a statement fascinator or keeping it smart-casual, the Kalgoorlie Cup is Kalgoorlie's biggest social occasion of the year — everyone brings their best, so dress to impress. A transfer to the track is included in your package. You're in for a full day of racing at Kalgoorlie-Boulder's historic race track where horse racing has been run since 1896.  Your exclusive entry ticket entitles you to be a Member for a Day, with entrance to the Members pavilion and the best view of the track.  Gates open at 12.00pm and the first race starts at 12.40pm. Expect live music, vibrant food stalls, brilliant fashion, and the wonderfully unique outback race day atmosphere that simply cannot be replicated anywhere else.    Whilst you're waiting for the first race to start, why not check out the Signpost Racing Museum at the track.  It's a unique attraction dedicated to preserving and showcasing the rich history of horse racing in the Goldfields region. It houses a diverse collection of racing memorabilia, including original silks, betting machines, bookmakers' bags, and ticket stubs, offering a glimpse into the past. The museum is housed in the "Tote" (Totaliser) Building, a structure dating back to 1896, and features several of the original betting windows.

The highlight of the day is the Kalgoorlie Cup, a prestigious Listed race over 2300 metres with a prize pool of $150,000, attracting elite stayers from across Australia and beyond. In 2026, the day also features the thrilling Golden Saddle, a $1,000,000 slot race over 1200 metres, making Kalgoorlie Cup Day one of the richest provincial race days in regional Australia. Whether it's a day of winnings or commiserations, there's a local watering hole waiting for you to take your day into the evening.  Check out the Rec Hotel in Boulder or the historic York Hotel back in Hannan St.  Either is a great choice for happy punters.

Day 5 (Sunday):   It's your last day in Kalgoorlie-Boulder.  Check out from your chosen hotel is likely to be between 10.00am to 11.00am, so plan for a leisurely morning.  Coffee shops and cafés are open in Hannan Street for a late, leisurely breakfast.  If getting out and about in the outdoors is more your style this morning, our Kalgoorlie-Boulder Audio Walking Tour is a great opportunity to catch up on some of our famous locations you may have missed, or maybe a cycle around our bike trails is more your style.  Both options can be organised through the team at the Kalgoorlie-Boulder Visitor Centre.   This afternoon your Prospector train departs Kalgoorlie.  Our team can help you with booking a taxi to the train station, where it's all aboard by 2.00pm for your return journey to Perth.  Congratulations! You've experienced one of Australia's great regional race weekends. Until next year!
